 How to germinate cucumber seeds using Japanese technology so as not to damage the roots

Among the wide variety of methods for growing cucumber seedlings, the Japanese method has become very popular. Its essence is in the germination of seeds in hot sawdust, due to which the plants are strong and resilient.

How to choose sawdust

It is very difficult to find quality sawdust. The shortage of this material is due to its widespread use in construction, furniture industry. It contains various adhesives and dyes that are not suitable for growing seedlings. Also, do not use spruce and pine waste. Material from deciduous trees is best suited, since it is very small and can mimic loose soil. Sawdust is needed freshly made or those that were in a dry place.

How to plant

Planting work consists of several stages:

  1. For seedlings, you need to pick up a container. Plastic cups work best.
  2. Fill a на part of the container with sawdust and pour boiling water over them.
  3. Gradually, the wood chips will begin to swell, you can help knead them with your fingers to make a crumb.
  4. Everything must be done very quickly so that the substrate does not have time to cool down. Spread the seeds on top, observing a distance of 1 cm.
  5. Cover with warm sawdust, cover the container with polyethylene and put in a warm place.

After 10-14 days, the first shoots are formed.

When to transplant seedlings

As soon as the shoots appear, the plants can be transplanted into the main soil. Just pre-fill the container with warm water in order to easily remove the seedlings from the woody substrate. The beds are prepared in a standard way, as in the classic method of growing cucumbers. During transplantation, the remnants of the material between the roots must be removed. Plant the plants very carefully so as not to injure the root system. When the plants are planted in the ground, they can be sprinkled with a little wood waste and watered with warm water.

What else can sprout in sawdust

Wood waste is actively used to grow various mushrooms:

  • honey agarics;
  • champignons;
  • shiitake;
  • mushrooms;
  • butter;
  • white.

The method is also effective for other plants:

  • currants;
  • strawberries and strawberries;
  • potatoes;
  • legumes.

For each of them, an individual growing technology is used. They grow well in sawdust, as wood waste makes the soil loose and fertile.

Sowing seeds

Sowing seeds... The first spring work of a gardener is, of course, the preparation of land for seedlings. This simple work begins in December-January. But it is very important, since the future harvest depends on the quality of the soil for sowing seeds. If you buy ready-made soils intended for growing a certain type of plants, then they must be balanced for the mineral shoving of this type.

In the technological process of preparation, the soil must pass live steam treatment in order to destroy pathogenic flora and pests. With this treatment, the necessary positive flora will also perish. Hence, recommended in 3-4 weeks before sowing seeds or transplanting flowers or seedlings, treat with IV-101.

Saturate the soil with working solution (1-2 drops for each liter of water), pack tightly without access to air. Store in a warm place for 2 to 4 weeks. If you didn't manage to do it in advance, it doesn't matter. Sow the seeds into the hydrogel or whatever soil you have. Since a small amount of soil is needed for seed germination, after germination, fertilize HB-101 at the rate of 1-2 drops per liter of water once a week, and the soil will be ready before picking.

Germinating seeds in a hydrogel before sowing

Add 1-2 drops of HB-101 to the swollen hydrogel. Put the finished mixture in a container for germinating seeds in an even layer 1.5-2 cm high, distribute the seeds prepared for sowing over the surface of the gel without deepening. Small ones can be dry, large ones can be pre-moistened.

Cover the container, without touching the seeds, with perforated film or a transparent perforated lid. The seeds are germinated at room temperature until the beginning of "pecking". Then they dive into the ripe soil. Very small seeds are sown in a mixture of soil and hydrogel prepared in advance. To do this, a layer of gel is poured onto a layer of soil with a hydrogel, seeds are sown.

The seeds are grown to the state of seedlings in the phase of developed cotyledons or the first true leaf, then dive or planted in a permanent place.

Water them with HB-101 solution once a week. The unique properties of HB-101 will not keep you waiting long, cucumbers hatch in a few hours, tomatoes show their roots in a couple of days, even dull peppers crawl out much earlier.

Also HB-101 is good for forcing any bulbous plants such as hyacinths, tulips, lilies and gladioli. When the seeds are sown according to the above information, the plants will be strong and healthy, receiving adequate nutrition and protection.

Preparation of cucumber seedlings for planting in the ground

When sowing cucumbers for seedlings, do not forget that they do not tolerate transplanting well and it is better to take a separate pot for each plant. Buy a seedling nutrient mixture or make one with equal parts turf, peat, humus, and sawdust. Plant one or two seeds in each container.

Water with warm water and, until shoots appear, keep at a temperature of +25. + 28 ° C. And so that the moisture evaporates less, cover the pots with foil or glass and remove them when the seeds sprout. If both seeds sprout in the same pot, remove the weaker sprout, and do not pull it out, but cut it off - then you will not damage the roots of the remaining plant.

Now for two or three days you need to lower the temperature to + 20 ° C, otherwise the hypocotal knee * will stretch out, and the sprouts will wither and wither. Try to provide the seedlings with additional lighting, especially on cloudy days, so they will not stretch.

Sprinkle the soil once or twice during the cultivation. Feed the seedlings twice with complex fertilizers specially designed for them. Water only with warm water (+22. + 28 ° С). And make sure that it does not blow from the windows - cucumbers do not like drafts.

Seedlings of cucumbers can be planted if they are squat, 2-3 dark green leaves have appeared on each bush, and the roots occupy the entire or almost the entire pot.

A week before planting in the ground, harden the seedlings - lower the room temperature to + 16-18 ° С. In good weather, you can take it out to the balcony, but just do not put it in direct sunlight.

Cucumber variety "Courage f1" can be safely grown not only under a film cover, but also on unprotected areas of land.

Zoned "Courage f1" for the central part of Russia, however, and in the northern regions, you can also successfully cultivate this variety of cucumbers.

For cultivation of the cucumber variety "Courage f1", you can use various technologies: seedling method or sowing directly with seed into the soil, with or without preliminary germination of grains. The choice of this or that technology depends, first of all, on the preferences of the farmer, however, the most correct is the following sequence of actions.

Selection and treatment of seeds

You can select the full, viable seeds of "Courage f1" cucumbers by soaking the seeds in a saline solution. To do this, stir a tablespoon of salt in a liter of water, then put the seeds of the "Courage f1" variety into the solution, mix again and leave for 10-20 minutes. The seeds that floated to the surface of the water are empty, while the filled seeds should settle to the bottom of the container. They should be used in the future.

On the surface of cucumber seeds, harmful microorganisms that are not visible to the eye can be found. They can subsequently cause the development of diseases and plant death. That is why, even before germination of cucumber seeds, they should be processed. This can be done by placing the seeds in a weak manganese solution for 1-1.5 hours. After such disinfection, the seeds of cucumbers "Courage f1" must be thoroughly rinsed with a stream of running water, then dried for storage or germinated.

Germinating seeds speeds up the process of growing the crop as a whole. For germination of seeds of cucumbers "Courage f1" it is necessary to create optimal conditions with a temperature of + 28- + 30 0 С and high humidity. This microclimate can be created by placing the seeds in a piece of damp cloth or gauze. To reduce evaporation and prevent drying out, it is recommended to place a wet shred with seeds in a plastic bag. You can also place the cloth on a saucer, but in this case, you will need to regularly check its moisture content.

The required temperature for germination of cucumber seeds "Courage f1" "can be found" near kitchen stoves, heating radiators or directly at the human skin. It is worth noting that some experienced gardeners put a plastic bag of seeds in the pocket of their everyday clothes and claim that in such a strange but really warm location, cucumber seeds germinate very quickly.

Seeds of cucumbers "Courage f1" in the presence of favorable conditions hatch in 4-6 days. Seeds that have not sprouted green shoots are not germinating or weak. They should be sorted. Germinated grains can be sown in the ground or for seedlings.

Sowing seeds in the ground

Sowing the seeds of cucumbers "Courage f1" in open ground is possible only when the soil at a depth of 10-15 cm has warmed up to a temperature above +15 0 С, and the threat of night frosts has passed. In central Russia, as a rule, such climatic conditions are typical for the end of May.

It is recommended to sow sprouted seeds of cucumbers "Courage f1" on plots of land where cabbage, legumes or potatoes previously grew. Fertilizing the soil should be taken care of in advance, in the fall, since fresh manure with a high nitrogen content can burn plants. In the spring, before sowing cucumbers "Courage f1", it is permissible to introduce only well-rotted compost.

Cucumbers "Courage f1" form a medium-sized, rather compact bush, so you can sow their seeds into the soil by 4-5 pcs. for 1m 2. Seed beds should be covered with plastic wrap. When shoots appear, the film must be lifted into arcs. In the presence of a relatively stable summer temperature, the shelter may not be used.

Growing seedlings

The seedling growing method has several advantages:

  • indoor conditions are favorable for growing healthy, strong cucumber seedlings
  • at the time of diving into the ground, cucumbers have enough strength to resist disease and pests
  • diving of grown plants accelerates the harvesting process
  • when planting cucumbers, you can select stronger plants in order not to occupy the land area with seedlings with a slow growth rate.

Sprouted cucumber seeds "Courage f1" are sown on seedlings in the second half of April. To do this, use plastic cups or peat pots. Soil for plants can be purchased or prepared independently by mixing peat, sand, fertile soil and compost in equal parts. You can reduce the acidity of the soil by adding wood ash. 1-2 seeds should be placed in each container filled with soil. After that, the crops must be watered and covered with a protective material (film, glass). It is recommended to place the containers in a warm place. When seedlings appear, cucumber seedlings are placed on an illuminated surface. It is worth noting that with a lack of light, the seedlings of cucumbers of the "Courage f1" variety will begin to stretch and slow down their growth, so the lack of lighting should be compensated for by illuminating the plants with fluorescent lamps.

You can dive the seedlings of cucumbers of the "Courage f1" variety into the greenhouse in mid-May. Plants can be transplanted into open ground in early June. Seedlings by the time of picking should have 3-4 true leaves.

Basic care

Cucumbers "Courage f1" are relatively unpretentious. For their full growth and fruiting, it is necessary to carry out regular watering with warm water (+22 0 С) directly under the root after sunset. Top dressing is recommended to be carried out 4 times per season. A solution of chicken manure, mullein or complex fertilizer can be used as fertilizer. Foliar dressing will also help increase yields. Experienced gardeners practice spraying plants with urea.

How to quickly germinate cucumber seeds

Stimulation. Cucumber seeds can grow rapidly with the help of growth stimulants. They are used immediately before sowing cucumbers. But they can also harm the plant. Therefore, you must follow the instructions clearly

After sowing the prepared seeds, no more than a week and a half should pass, but if no shoots were found, then sowing must be repeated.

Warming up. Cucumber seeds are placed near a hot battery at a temperature of at least 30 degrees Celsius. If there is little time left before sowing, then the seeds can also be warmed up in water at a temperature of at least 50 degrees Celsius.

This procedure helps cucumbers to do without moisture during the dry summer. If you follow the instructions, the first shoots will appear within 3-7 days.

Soak. This method requires a wet cloth. Seeds are placed in it, then put in a bag to protect the seeds from oxygen, maintain moisture, add water if necessary. After sowing such seeds, the first shoots will appear in a couple of days. If you plant seeds without preliminary soaking, then wait for the first shoots within a week and a half.

Hardening. Hardening takes place in two stages. The first stage - the seeds are wrapped in cloth and sent to the refrigerator for five hours.

Germination. The seeds are placed in a wet cloth, covered with dense material. It is necessary to maintain humidity by adding water. It is also worth making sure that the light does not penetrate under the fabric, otherwise the seeds may die. When the embryo appears, the seeds are planted in previously prepared soil. The first shoots will appear within 2-4 days.

Top dressing for cucumbers

As soon as it gets warm, the cucumbers need to be fed. It is better to choose a foliar dressing - spray the leaves with a fertilizer solution. In this case, the plant will begin to use nutrients faster than when watering.

In the evening, spray the cucumbers with a solution of urea or ammonium nitrate (5 g / l). You can use a solution of liquid complex fertilizer or dissolve 5–7 g of Kemira-Lux in 1 liter of water.

It must be remembered that foliar dressing should not be given in sunny weather: the solution dries out very quickly, its concentration increases and the leaves can get burned.
