The herbaceous plant tenacious (Ajuga), or ayuga, is a representative of the family of the lamellar or labiate. In Russia, such a plant is often referred to as a non-wilting, Dubrovka, Dubnik, Nemirashka, or Vologda. On the territory of Eurasia and Africa, this herb in nature can be found everywhere, in the temperate latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere, about 70 species of Ayuga grow, and in Australia there are only 2 species of such a plant. Already from the name it becomes clear that the tenacious is distinguished by its high vitality. The most popular among gardeners is the pyramidal, creeping and Geneva tenacious. Turkestan tenacious, or rather, an extract from this plant, has a powerful tonic effect, and it is used in sports and clinical medicine.

Features of the tenacious

Tenacious is a herbaceous semi-evergreen, evergreen or deciduous plant that can be perennial or annual. The height of the bush can vary from 0.05 to 0.5 meters. The leaf plates are opposite. False whorls consist of blue, blue, purple or yellow flowers. All types of such a plant are distinguished by their undemanding soil and growing conditions. Gardeners, as a rule, cultivate decorative leafy and ground cover species and forms of Ayuga. In landscape design, it is used for growing in rockeries, mixborders and rock gardens, and it is also cultivated as a ground cover plant.

Creeping tenacious - a necessary element of a flower garden

Growing a tenacious plant from seeds

What time to sow seeds

Sow the seeds of the Ayuga directly into the open soil. If sowing is done for the first time, then the seeds can be purchased without any problems at a specialized store. Such seeds are highly germinating. Seeds are sown directly into open soil in spring, when it warms up properly. You can also sow Ayuga before winter in autumn. A suitable area should be well lit or shaded. Often, the tree trunk circle becomes the place for planting the tenacious. The fact is that this herb will not take away nutrients from the soil that the tree needs. Ayuga grows best on well-cultivated garden soil or on nutritious moist loam. Before starting sowing, the site must be dug up, while introducing organic matter into the soil (per 1 square meter from 10 to 15 kilograms) and a complex mineral fertilizer or double superphosphate (per 1 square meter, 100 grams).

How to plant correctly

If desired, in the store you can buy ayuga seedlings, which are sockets. They are planted in open soil from mid to late May. Such grass is not afraid of short frosts down to minus 8-10 degrees. For planting seedlings, you should choose a sunny, dry day. A distance of 0.25–0.3 m must be kept between the bushes. The growth point must necessarily remain above the ground surface. The land near the bushes must be tamped. The planted plants need abundant watering, while trying not to expose the roots.

Caring for a tenacious in the garden

It is relatively easy to care for Ayuga. The bushes must be systematically watered, as well as to prevent their uncontrolled spread. Before young leaf plates appear on the planted plants, they need to be protected from direct rays of the sun, and the tenacious needs timely watering, make sure that the soil near the bushes never dries out. After the rosettes begin to grow, the plants are practically not watered, this should be done only during extreme heat or a long dry period. Remember that such grass can grow extremely quickly, so it is necessary to constantly monitor so that it does not spread into areas not intended for it. A fence can be made around the perimeter of the site, for this you need to surround the plant with stones, and only slightly press them into the soil. To preserve the spectacular appearance of the decorative leafy species of Ayuga, it is recommended to cut off the inflorescences in a timely manner.

Reproduction of the tenacious

Such a herbaceous plant can be propagated by seed and vegetative methods. But it should be borne in mind that it is recommended to grow ayuga from seeds only during the initial planting. If you cultivate varietal plants, then remember that the seeds collected from them are not able to retain the characteristics of the mother plant. In this regard, they are propagated by rosettes. Vegetative reproduction of the tenacious is carried out in early spring or in autumn (until the second decade of September). Overgrown sockets should be cut off from the bushes, which are transplanted to a new place one by one or several pieces. It happens that the outlet has only 1 thin spine, despite this, it can quite successfully take root in a new place. In the event that the outlet is separated once a year, then when planting between the bushes, a distance of 15 centimeters should be observed. If this procedure is carried out once every 2 years, then at least 0.25 m should be left between the plants. After the sockets take root and start growing, they stop watering.

Ayuga can reproduce itself by self-sowing, but at the same time the grown young plants will not be able to preserve the varietal characteristics of the mother bush. To prevent self-seeding, peduncles should be cut off in a timely manner. So, in deciduous species, this should be done when the arrow just begins to grow, and in flowering species, when they have faded. This lesson is quite laborious, but the basic care of the tenacious is very simple.

Garden design. Planting and breeding tenacious

Diseases and pests

Ayuga is highly resistant to diseases and pests. However, such a plant can be disturbed by slugs, which eat its delicate leaves at night. As a rule, slugs are activated at high humidity and low air temperatures. However, for such gastropods, a strip of crushed stone or gravel will become an almost insurmountable obstacle, such a "fence" is made around the site with the tenacious.

Tenacious after flowering

Seed collection

As mentioned above, it is pointless to collect seeds, since they are not able to preserve the varietal characteristics of the mother plant, and also because the tenacious reproduces well by self-sowing. Experienced gardeners are advised to cut off the testes, and use sockets for reproduction.

If the winters are snowy, then the plant will be able to survive them without shelter. In the event that there is practically no snow in the winter, the plantings will need to be covered with dried foliage or spruce branches. Young bushes should be covered for the winter.

Types and varieties of tenacious with photos and names

Gardeners cultivate not a very large number of species and varieties of tenacious, while all of them are ground cover plants.

Creeping insect (Ajuga reptans)

Under natural conditions, this species can be found in Asia Minor, North America, Europe and Iran, and it prefers to grow among shrubs, forests and wet meadows. Such a perennial plant has creeping rooting shoots, the height of which is 10-25 centimeters, on their surface there are soft hairs. Rosette basal leaf plates gradually turn into a relatively long petiole. In this case, the stem leaf plates have an ovoid shape, they are sessile or have a short petiole, and the edge is notched-wavy. The entire bracts are pale blue at the base. Spike-shaped inflorescences consist of 6–8 bell-shaped flowers, pubescence is on the surface of their calyxes. The color of the corolla is blue or blue, they have a short, two-lobed upper lip. Such a plant blooms in May or June, and the flowering duration is about 20 days. This article tells about planting and caring for the creeping tenacious. Popular varieties:

  1. Arctic Snow. This variety was bred relatively recently. Wrinkled-corrugated leaf plates of a spatulate shape and dark green color in length reach about 10 centimeters. In the center of the plate is a wide, ash colored stroke, it also has a white stroke and a green edge.
  2. Black Skallop... The height of the bushes does not exceed 5-10 centimeters. Shiny embossed leaves are painted in a very rich beet-purple color, the edge is uneven, wavy, the shape is similar to scallops. If the plant is grown in a sunny area, then the color of its foliage will be as deep and saturated as possible.
  3. Chocolite Chip... The bushes reach a height of only 5 centimeters. The length of small smooth all-edge sheet plates is about 6 centimeters, and the width is 2 centimeters, they have an elliptical shape. They are painted simultaneously in purple and dark green. If you grow such a plant in a shaded place, then its decorative qualities will not decrease.
  4. Multicolor... This plant is one of the most decorative. The color of its leaf plates can vary depending on how intense the light is. For example, if it grows in a shaded place, then its color will be dark green with stains of yellow and pink, and in a sunny place, the foliage is painted in a deep purple color, and there are scarlet and orange-yellow fragments on the surface.
  5. Burgundy Glow... This variety is quite popular among gardeners. Violet-purple leaf plates have a cream-colored edging, and in their central part there are red-pink shapeless spots. When grown in a shaded area, the foliage color is more intense.
  6. Sparkler... The color of the flowers is bright blue. There are a large number of small green leaves, on the surface of which there are strokes and strokes of white-pink or cream color.

The following varieties of creeping tenacious are also popular: Sparkler, Variegata, Catlins Giant, Dixie Chip, Toffee Chip, Rainbow, Silver Queen, Pink Elf, Arctic Fox, Brown Hets, Atropurpurea, Variegata Rubra, etc.

Pyramidal tenacious (Ajuga pyramidalis = Ajuga occidentalis)

The homeland of this species is Europe, it prefers to grow among shrubs and on rocks. The height of the bushes is up to 25 centimeters. On the surface of the oval slightly serrated leaf plates, there is a long pile. The length of the peduncles is no more than 10 centimeters, they are adorned with flowers of white, pink or deep purple color. Popular varieties:

  1. Lunar Landing... This very unusual variety has yellow flowers that are extremely difficult to describe. Created this variety by Riotto, and in his opinion this plant is as ugly as it is magnificent.
  2. Crisp... Large crinkled leaf plates are colored green. The color of the flowers is blue.
  3. Metallica Crisp... Plant height is about 5 centimeters. Small wrinkled leaf plates have a green-purple color with a metallic sheen.

Ajuga genevensis

In nature, the species is found in Asia Minor, Europe and Iran, such a flower prefers to grow on forest lawns and forest edges, in meadows and among shrubs. The height of the shoots varies from 0.05 to 0.4 meters. The leaf plates of the basal rosette have short petioles, while the stem plates are sessile, have an oblong elliptical shape and an edge with sharp teeth. The color of the flowers is blue, white or pink, they have a three-lobed lower lip and a very small upper lip. Flowers are collected in whorls of 2-6 pieces, which are part of spike-shaped inflorescences. Bracts large-toothed or three-lobed. The plant blooms in May – July. In this species, the stems do not creep, and they do not need "restraints".

Chio's tenacious (Ajuga chia)

In the wild, this species is found in the Caucasus, Iran, the Mediterranean and Asia Minor. Such a tenacious survivor prefers to grow on rocks, along roadsides, in steppes and on talus. The height of such a perennial plant does not exceed 20 centimeters. The shoots branched at the base can be erect or rising, on their surface there is a long white pile. There is pubescence on the surface of the stem tripartite leaf plates. The lower leaf plates are spatulate, solid or three-toothed in the upper part. Pseudo-spike inflorescences are located at the ends of the shoots and are formed from one axillary flower or a whole bunch. On the outer surface of the yellow flowers, there is dense pubescence, on the lower lip there are specks and streaks of purple. This type of tenacious has a wound healing effect.

Laxman's tenacious (Ajuga laxmanni)

This type is extremely unusual. The height of the bush is about 0.2–0.5 m. The shoots are pubescent and leafy. Large, whole-edged leaf plates of a white-silver color have an oblong shape. The flowers are small and inconspicuous with a pale pink or light yellow color.

Herringbone tenacious (Ajuga chamaecyparissus)

This annual reaches a height of only 6 centimeters. Greenish-gray serrated separate leaf plates are similar in appearance to a cone. A very pleasant pine scent emanates from the bush. The color of the flowers is yellow. Flowering begins in May and ends in late autumn.

Turkestan tenacious (Ajuga turkestanica)

It is endemic to the Western Tien Shan, grows naturally in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. This dwarf shrub is low-branched. On thick shoots there are elliptical leaf plates of a pale brown color, reaching 6 centimeters long and 2 centimeters wide. At the tops of the shoots are flowers of a deep purple color, which have short pedicels. The stems of this plant are used in cosmetology and sports medicine.

The name of this plant in Latin is due to the term "ajuga", which is changed from "abiga" and corresponds to the translation "to expel, expel", or according to another version, the source was the word in Greek "aguia", which meant "agyieos" that is " with weak limbs, joints. " In the first case, Ayuga was used medicinally as a laxative or abortifacient, and in the second it was prescribed properties to treat gout. In the people, it is customary to call this grass oak, oak tree or Vologda, tear-grass or tenacious. The latter name was given due to its increased ability to survive in difficult environmental conditions.

All Ayugs are herbaceous plants with a one-year or long-term life cycle. The height of their shoots can vary from 5 cm to half a meter. Basically, the stems are creeping, easily rooting when in contact with the soil, so the tenacious is usually used as a ground cover crop. The shape of the shoots is tetrahedral. The root shoots are thin, close to or on the soil surface. The leaf plates on the stems grow in opposite order, gathering in rosettes. At the same time, in the lower part, the size of the foliage is large, which gradually decreases towards the top. The surface of the leaf is soft. The shape of the leaf plate is usually ovoid, but it can be either rounded or acicular. The color of the leaves is quite varied, species can be found both with green foliage and with a purple or reddish-brown tint.

During flowering, buds are formed, connected in false whorls, crowning the tops of the stems. Spike-shaped inflorescences are collected from them. The corolla color takes on a blue, blue, purple hue, but it can be pink or yellow. The upper lip remains underdeveloped in it. The flowers on the shoots rise slightly above the deciduous carpet. The flowering process occurs in the period from April to June. Moreover, the plant is an excellent honey plant. Seeds ripen from July to the end of summer.

When grown outdoors, Ayuga is used for planting on lawns in arboretums or parks; you can use it for landscaping rock gardens or rockeries. The most popular among florists are the pyramidal and Geneva varieties of the tenacious. But it should be remembered that this herbaceous representative of the flora is a rather aggressive culture, it easily conquers obstacles in its path (stones, plastic or wood fences). Therefore, when growing a tenacious, constant control over its development is necessary.

According to the botanical description, the Ayuga is represented by almost 50 species. Not all of them are suitable for growing in a garden. The most famous type of gourd is creeping. Its prominent representatives are the following varieties:

  1. Arctic Snow. It has oval-elongated carved leaves up to 10 cm in size, with a silvery-ash wide edging.
  2. Black Scallop. It is distinguished by strongly corrugated rounded sheet plates of a dark purple color, sometimes with a burgundy tint.
  3. Chocolate Chip. Dwarf ground cover 50 mm high. It is characterized by narrow oval leaves of purple-green color.

The pyramidal tenacious is no less popular among flower growers. The most famous varieties:

  1. Metallica Crispa. It has dark emerald foliage, sometimes with a burgundy tint, shimmering in the sun with a metallic sheen.
  2. Lunar Landing. Dwarf Ayuga, distinguished by its unusual appearance and bright yellow small inflorescences.
  3. Crispa. A characteristic feature of this hybrid form is the large, highly corrugated leaf plates of herbaceous color.

Another variety that is often found in garden plots is the Geneva gourd. The plant does not grow as fast as in other species, and therefore it is practically not necessary to control its growth. It blooms with lavender (Helena) or forget-me-not (Blue Sea) spikelets.

Less often, in the flower beds, you can see a herringbone tenacious. It grows no higher than 50-70 mm, but outwardly resembles a disassembled bump. Blossoming, the flowers of Ajuga chamaecyparissus emit a delicate pine scent.

Not so decorative, but interesting type - Ayuga of Chios. It grows up to 0.2 m, differing in vertical, slightly pubescent stems. It blooms with small bright lemon flowers, with a slight purple speck.

You can also highlight the Turkestan tenacious. Its natural habitat is Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The plant is a low-growing shrub covered with herbaceous brown oval-elongated leaves. During flowering, it throws out bright, carmine-red buds.

Types and varieties

Armeria flowers have about 90 species. To decorate a garden and a rock garden, you can use several of them at once.

The most famous and popular type is the seaside armeria, planting and caring for which does not require much effort, and its varieties are elegy and brilliant. There are also such species as common armeria, beautiful armeria, Siberian and many others.

Armeria ballerina

Armeria ballerina looks vaguely like a carnation. Flower diameter about 4 cm, height 20-25 cm. It blooms in the first year of planting. In 2009, this species was awarded the Fleroselect Prize.

Description, varieties and types, photo of the flower

The tenacious plant is already interesting only for its name. It implies its ability to adapt to different conditions. However, the common camel thorn also tolerates high temperature conditions, which does not add to its external attractiveness. Is it worth it to grow it in a garden? This needs to be dealt with.

A low (up to 30 cm) perennial plant is a member of the Labiatae family. Its second name is Ayuga, which also looks attractive. Small flowers adorn the erect stem, which has spectacular wide leaves as an added bonus.

It is necessary to distinguish between the basic type of plant and its variations. In the main type, the flowers are colored blue. They can also have purple or yellow petals. Decorative varieties are pink or white flowers.

Sunny glades, deciduous forests and dense bushes are places where you can find the south.

In Russia, such a plant is often called a non-wilting, Dubrovka, Dubnik, Nemirashka, or Vologda.

Features of the tenacious

The plant has an undeniable advantage over many varieties of beautiful flowers: it is unpretentious. Most ornamental varieties can only take root in fertile soil. With all their advantageous external data, this should be attributed to the undoubted disadvantages.

A survivor in rocky places feels absolutely comfortable. It will also survive drought, which makes the flower a valuable gardening product.

Types and varieties

A distinction should be made between three plant varieties: deciduous, evergreen and intermediate.

Tenacious creeping

We are talking about the most famous and widespread type of tenacious in Russia. You can also meet him abroad in some Asian and European countries. It is really possible to find the creeping tenacious in the zone of mixed forests, wet meadows and thickets of bushes.

The brush-like root system of the plant spreads in the presence of easily digestible shoots. The stems have soft texture pubescence. Near the root zone, on the petioles of an elongated shape, there are leaves narrowed downwards.

There are two more types of them: sessile upper bracts and whole bracts. The third type of leaf at the base may turn blue over time. The creeping tenacious plant blooms for about a month: in May and June.

Pyramidal tenacious

The place of distribution of this species is European countries. The perennial plant is unpretentious and perfectly adapts to rocky soils. Its similarity to the creeping tenacious is hard not to notice. The difference between them lies in the length, because the pyramidal variety does not grow more than 25 cm.

The second difference is that it has no continuous coatings.

With dense pubescence of the shoots in the pyramidal species, the leaves are also covered with pile. The flowers of the plant of selected species are white, pinkish or bright blue. "Metallica Crispa" is a well-known variety of the pyramidal tenacious.

It gained its popularity thanks to the metallic overflow of folded leaves. They are considered provocatively decorative because of the unusual spider-like outlines of the leaf plate.

Tenacious geneva

This species is an inhabitant of the southern edges. She chose the Caucasus and Crimea for her "residence". In a plant with an extensive and superficial root system, shoots can reach 40 cm. The leaves of the geneva tenacious are of two types: the lower ones in the form of a dense rosette and the upper sessile ones with a toothed edging.

The time of the "awakening" of the decoration of the South is May-June. This species is interesting in that it blooms twice a year and does not creep over the site. Landscaping professionals appreciate this advantage when they want to comply with the strict territorial limits of the garden.

Tenacious geneva

Chios tenacious

The endurance and long flowering of this species can only be amazed. The Chios tenacious is an unusual form of a plant with its small height of up to 20 cm. In outline, it looks like a bush, which has three stems at the base.

His flowers are not impressive in size, but they have a bright yellow color with purple blotches. The leaves of the Chios tenacious are dark green with a downy coating.

For gardeners, all types of Ayuga are good in their own way. However, the Chios tenacious is interesting in that it effectively complements dry slopes and alpine slides.

Laxman's tenacious

Perennial grass sometimes reaches half a meter in height. With a thick woody rhizome, Laxman's tenacious has tetrahedral stems with hairs. They also cover irregular grass flowers.

The shape of the leaves can be oval or elongated-oval. Laxman's tenacious fruit resembles a small nut. It contains obovate seeds.

The plant blooms for three months: from late May to August. Its habitat is the Caucasus, the European part of Russia and Ukraine. In the zone of steppes and forest edges of this vast territory, it is easy to meet the tenacious Laxman.

Laxman's tenacious

Herringbone tenacious

A carpet of this vegetation is a very impressive sight. The height of such a variety does not exceed 6 cm, which does not affect its visual qualities.

In a low-growing plant with gray-green leaves, their edging resembles a cone after removing nuts from it. It got its name because of its delicate coniferous aroma, which is a rather persistent odor.

The herringbone tenacious is a gift from nature with bright yellow petals that bloom from early spring to late autumn. Dry and light soil is best for this variety. The plant does not show aggression towards neighboring crops.

Herringbone tenacious

Turkestan tenacious

Its habitat can be calculated by the very name of the perennial dwarf shrub. It takes root well in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and western China. Plant height with a powerful and thick stem can reach 60 cm.

In the protected species, the leaves have an elongated oval or rhombic shape. The pedicels are decorated with purple petals, so the plant looks like a bright spot among the small vegetation of the sonicated zones. The Turkestan tenacious blooms for 4 months: from April to July.

How to use grass tenacious

If you do not take the use of it in the decor as a basis, then it is worth talking about the medicinal qualities of the plant:

  1. Creeping. Infusions and decoctions from it have diuretic, anti-inflammatory, pathogenic and astringent properties. This variety allows you to regulate the metabolism when it fails. It is enough to dry the grass, 2 tsp. composition, pour a glass of boiling water and insist it for a couple of hours. Drinking the remedy is recommended three times a day for 1.5 weeks.
  2. Turkestan. Its aerial part is used in the manufacture of the Exumid preparation. It is necessary to stimulate protein processes in the human body. Do not confuse it with synthetic anabolic steroids. The plant is used not only in sports medicine, but also in cosmetology.
  3. Herringbone. The tenacious herb of this variety is rarely used. Its healing properties are limited to helping men with diseases of the genitourinary system. This natural ingredient will help if you initially coordinate treatment with your doctor.
  4. Geneva. Its juice is used as a hemostatic agent in gynecology. It will also help with wounds and skin inflammations.

Laxman's tenaciousness is used in cooking. Salads from its ground part are popular among gourmets.

This plant is also useful as a remedy for baldness and weight loss. To do this, it is enough to take a bath, into which you should pour 2 liters of water with 5 tbsp steamed in it. l. dried herb.

Application in landscape design

Unfavorable soil conditions, the presence of a large number of stones in the soil is not a problem for the tenacious. When landscaping, this adaptability can be effectively beaten. It is recommended to plant it along garden paths when space is limited by curbs.

On the cramped alpine hills, only the Chios tenacious looks great. The rest of the varieties are best placed in a spacious rock garden. Tasks of the plant in the landscape:

  • give structure to hilly terrain
  • hide an unaesthetic corner of the garden
  • mask an empty area of bad soil
  • landscaping a garden gazebo in the form of an ampelous culture
  • help a novice gardener to start landscaping the site.

Growing in the garden

Tenacious is a plant without any special whims. However, it is not recommended to abuse this factor.

Seat selection

There is no principle in choosing a site. The midday heat will not harm the plant. In rare cases, many flowers will delight you with their "fertility" if they are placed in a dense shade. This factor does not affect the vital activity of this garden decoration.

Heavy soils with high humidity are suitable as soil. If you want to choose a zone of maximum comfort for a plant, you can give preference to:

  • humus-rich territory
  • wet loam
  • sliding shadow.

There is an option of sowing in the area of tree trunk circles. It will not harm them, because it does not take food from the "neighbors".

Planting and leaving

Planting is done in two ways: seeds and seedlings. In the first case, we are talking about a simpler option for gardeners. Seeds of any kind of tenacious can be purchased at a specialized store.

The tested product guarantees excellent germination in the end.

The prepared planting material is placed in open ground in the spring. The seeds of the tenacious plant are planted twice a year: in April and September. It is best to choose the end of the autumn month. The introduction of a complex mineral fertilizer or double phosphate for digging will not interfere.

The second way is to purchase seedlings. The best option in this case is the power outlets. The second half of May is the best time for planting seedlings in the ground. Some gardeners fear such a rush when the frost may return.

The creeping insect and its other varieties are not afraid of cold weather. In May, they rarely tighten, and the temperature columns in isolated cases show a mark below minus 8-10 ºC.

A dry, fine day is the time when it's time to get down to business. The distance between seedlings should not exceed 25-30 cm. It is also impossible to reduce the distance. After the soil is compacted, it is watered while avoiding exposing the roots.

The first two weeks after planting in the ground, the plant is abundantly watered. Then there is no urgent need for frequent watering. A month without water is not a disaster for a survivor. However, in hot summer, flower beds need to be watered periodically.

Diseases and pests

Fungal diseases are the maximum nuisance that Ayuga can overtake. And then the attack happens if the garden is in complete desolation.

  1. Snails. In the daytime they are not visible because they cannot stand the heat. Snails are amazingly voracious. They literally "sweep away" everything in their path: weeds, cultivated plants and even the first fallen leaves.
  2. Slugs. Fruits and vegetables are the favorite treats of these pests. However, they do not disregard the tenacity.
Slugs eat young seedlings and shoots, leaves, stems of plants, parts of roots and tubers protruding above the ground

The voiced pests will disappear from the garden if toads make up their "pleasant" company. Snails and slugs will not like the mortar either.

High vegetative activity is one of the main features of the decorative culture. The tenacious creeping with its territorial mobility has no obstacles to reproduction. For this reason, the seed method of increasing the Ayuga population is not popular among gardeners.

The flower takes root easily with the formation of a new terminal growth point. This happens in the area where it comes into contact with moist soil. After the beginning of the formation of the point, the plant begins its further development in an upright position.

The second half of summer is the period of formation of a green leaf rosette on a vertical stem. The future inflorescence will be located in its center, which will actually be observed in a year.

The fact of secondary flowering of Ayuga is not excluded. The complete dying off of the horizontal shoot occurs with the onset of frost. In its place, the newly appeared leaf rosettes remain intact.

By dividing the rhizome

This method is suitable exclusively for the creeping tenacious. It is used in case of need to move the decorative culture to another place. The rhizome should be dug up and divided according to the principle “one stolon into two or three internodes”. Then the resulting material is laid out on wet soil without deepening into it.

Bush rosettes

The plant also reproduces by dividing it into rosettes. You can start the process in early spring. Its completion should not be delayed until the end of September. Ideally, the planting material should be represented by "islands" of three to five outlets. In reality, this option is difficult to implement.

A rare variety will further narrow the amount of material needed. In this case, the solution will be to use single outlets.

There is no need to get rid of the damaged root system. If a small part of it is intact, then it is quite capable of reproducing offspring.

The sockets should be removed during their growth at a distance of 10-15 cm.

Tenacious after flowering

Some gardeners believe that after flowering, you can safely forget about an unpretentious plant. This is not entirely true.

Experienced gardeners advise to cut off the testes, and use sockets for reproduction.

Ayuga's description showed that she is not afraid of cold weather. You should not relax in this case, because we are talking about young shoots. If excessively thickened specimens came out from under the snow in the spring, then this causes alarm among gardeners.

Usually, everything ends with the restoration of Ayuga with the first warm rays of the sun. It is better to insure yourself by covering the survivor for the winter with a special film or spruce branches.

Collection, storage and procurement of raw materials

Collecting and storing Ayuga seeds will be a waste of time. After all, it reproduces perfectly with the help of seedlings. However, it is necessary to remove the testes to keep the garden in order.

The tenacious is a real fighter for its existence. It will not cause much trouble for gardeners and will effectively complement the landscape of their territory.
